I awoke to the sound of hippos in the nearby Mara River, just outside my tent. It was still hours before the sun would rise, but my guide was ready to take me to the launch site for a hot air balloon ride. As the ballon lifted into the sky, I saw several other brightly colored balloons in the distance. A neighboring red and yellow balloon caught my eye, with the lush green grasses contrasted by the dense fog still covering much of the landscape, almost creating a barrier to the escarpment in the background.
